Music has always been a place I find inspiration. I find myself spending a large part of my day listening to music when I am walking or cycling or driving. Music has a way to allow us to lose ourselves and pass the time. I wrote my last post from something that spoke to me in a song, and I found the inspiration for this one in another song. The song is “This Is Not Goodbye” by Sidewalk Prophets written by Ben McDonald and David Frey. I came across an interview with the band's lead singer David Frey related that this song means different things to different people. I will hope to convey to you what this song means to me and how it has impacted my life. David said the inspiration for this song came from a passage of scripture where Paul was speaking to the people of Philippi. Paul spoke of Love for these people as they are believers in the Lord, they would are, promised eternal life and we will see each other again in the kingdom of God.
This song and verse bring me comfort as I believe that I too, will be reunited with all those people that are gone in my life. The verses in this song do not just apply to people that have died. They are also applicable to people we know we might never see again in this lifetime, people that are leaving us to pursue other places in life. When I think about this song, I remember the faces of all the people in my life, that I have lost and what they brought to my life.
The chorus of the song says:
This is not goodbye
I know we'll meet again
So let your life begin
'Cause this is not goodbye
It's just "I love you" to take with you
Until you're home again
This chorus says so much to the way we can feel when we know someone is leaving us. The part about this is not Goodbye it’s just I Love You to take with you” to me shows that if it is someone that is moving away or even dying that we are ok we love them and we will see them again. I feel like this brings us all the hope that in the end, we will end up at our father's house where we will live a truly happy life with all that we love and we will spend our eternity with them.
